Could some-one please explain in simple English what " Invariant Sections, ... Front-Cover Texts, and ... Back-Cover Texts" mean(s)?Kdammers (talk) 10:02, 20 January 2013 (UTC) I am a teacher. I want to use images under the GNU license in my presentattions. Does it suffice to attribute the author, or do i have to list all the past histry of the image? please respond.[reply]

" Invariant Sections, Front-Cover Texts, and Back-Cover Texts" are sections which the author said cannot be changed. We do not allow invariant sections and front or back-cover texts, so you don't need to worry about them for files you find on Wikimedia Commons. If you find content with invariant sections or front or back-cover texts elsewhere, you may not upload it here.
To comply with the license when using an image, you should attribute the authors of the image itself, found on the file description page. You don't need to attribute everyone in the "history" tab, as many of these editors only changed the file description page. You also have to include the full text of the GFDL in your presentation.
However, most of our images which are licensed GFDL are also licensed under a Creative Commons license. You can choose one license; there's no need to comply with both. See here for information on how to comply with CC BY-SA, our most common license. Guanaco (talk) 19:30, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
